Monthly Siamsa and Song Circle

Kingston Brew Pub, Dragon’s Lair,

Sunday March 21st, 2:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Harp of Tara sponsors a Siamsa - music social - every third Sunday of the month from September to April, in the very hospitable room upstairs at the Kingston Brew Pub (34 Clarence St).

The Siamsa provides an occasion for tunes, song, poetry, dancing, trying out your best 'party piece,' or whatever you wish to contribute. All ages, all levels, all welcome. The most family-friendly of the regular events. No charge.

If the monthly Céilí is the only event in Kingston that allows musicians an opportunity to play for dancers and for dancing to live music, the Siamsa is the main opportunity for musicians, singers, storytellers to get together for an enjoyable social.   For more information contact: Paul at pgillespie2@cogeco.ca

Accordion Club

For some time considered a bit of a joke, the accordion [we have several at Joe’s M.I.L.L. …] is enjoying a renewed - and much deserved – surge of interest these days. With that in mind, one of our ‘box-squeezers’ has come up with the idea of forming an ‘accordion club’ where players [or wish-to-be players] of all skill levels can meet and share their common interest in this classic instrument. Here’s the scoop …

Roger

“BELLOWS, BUTTONS and B-FLAT

I'm just picking up the accordion again after a 40-year break and am looking for other accordion aficionados to accompany me in get-togethers where we'd learn and laugh while we push our buttons and make our keys sing. I'm hoping to hear from potential mentors as well as less experienced players who are ready to come out of the closet! If you are interested, please contact me, Suzanne, at (613) 541-1265”

Harp of Tara Membership

This is the time of year to take out or renew a membership in CCE Kingston Harp of Tara, the driving force behind most of the grass-roots Irish events in Kingston, from weekly classes in Irish Dance, Language, and Music; monthly Céilí’s and a Siamsa; to world-class house concerts and advanced-level workshops. We’ve also been the principle organizational pillar of the North American Gaeltacht, which has raised international interest.

New members with new ideas and energy, or ideas for improvements in what we are doing, are always more than welcome. Apart from that, the benefits are a magazine, and discounts at all Comhaltas events, anywhere in the world.

Video of the Picton County Céilí

Harp of Tara, the Quinte Irish Society, the owner of the Glenora Mill, and local residents Felix and Christine co-sponsored a great country céilí at the Glenora Mill awhile ago, with music by Brian Flynn and Danielle Lennon

Hi all,

I posted a short video that I took up on YouTube. You can search for County Céilí or Quinte Irish Society to find it. Heck you could even use the following link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smdyshUOdfk.

I linked the video to the QICS events page (http://www.qics.ca/http://www.qics.ca/) and have also included a little photo gallery.

Cheers, Wilfred

Fiddle Lessons with James Kelly

A Note from James Kelly

I am now offering Irish music students the opportunity to take lessons from me via the internet. These are real time lessons that allow us to exchange musical information and ideas via the web. The beauty of these lessons is the fact that we can see and hear each other, in person, and the feedback is instantaneous. The technical set up is straight forward, and the audio and video feed via the internet has been very good. I am offering these lessons primarily to fiddlers; however, on occasion, non-fiddlers have requested some general musical feedback on their playing, and I've always been happy to accommodate their requests for lessons.

If you would like more information about taking an internet lesson with me, please write to me at jameskellymusic@yahoo.com and I will send you all the details.

Thank you.
