In order to plan for meals, supplies, classrooms, etc. confirm bookings for the Saturday night dinner and the day trip,
we need to get a fairly good handle on numbers who will be attending.
We have had lots of enquiries, but very few confirmations that people will be coming and for what days. It would be really appreciated that, if you are planning on coming, please send your registration forms in to Sue Moore.
Dorothy, the lady who runs the B& B in Tamworth, has indicated that there are some families willing to billet people in their homes for $65 per night (meals would be at the gaeltacht). For those of you planning on staying in Tamworth I would suggest you contact Dorothy at 613-379-2035 to make arrangements for accommodation. Or you may make your own reservations at one of the other B&B's or motels in the area listed on the accommodation attachment.
The camp runs from August 9 - 15.
The cost for the week will be $175 including meals except the Saturday
banquet at a local restaurant (The restaurant will not be overly fancy but good food and
very reasonably priced) and any side trips.
Camping is available on site for $5 per night per site. There are outhouses
and a basic shower on site.
Meals are communal with people pitching in to help with clear up, setting tables etc. All meals are in large marquee type tents. Anyone who was there last year will attest to the fact that we ate well.
There are also workshops during the day in set dancing, crafts, etc. We may also have music workshops and we do have informal sessions during down times and around the evening campfire.
Classes are for all levels from absolute beginners to fluent speakers.
It is not a fancy camp but all who attended last year enjoyed it thoroughly - we had good classes, workshops and meals. There were a couple of side trips through the week as well. This year we are hoping to go to the Sunset Ceremony at Old Fort Henry
We are on the Salmon River and we have a couple of canoes and kayaks and are just finishing building a dock. Swimming is reasonable but it is not ideal at the site. We do go swimming at Beaver Lake nearby each day.
If you plan on attending, please fill out and return the attached registration form to Sue Moore as soon as possible. If you have any questions while we are away, Bob MacDiarmid at rmacdiarmid@cogeco.ca or 613-544-1055 would be glad to help you.

A story about a bored Chinese shopkeeper who learns Irish Gaelic and moves to Dublin only to find the locals no longer speak their mother tongue. An excellent short film for its entertainment value and as a resource for Irish language enthusiasts.Yu Ming is ainm dom
Various North American Language Organizations have been involved in a project to purchase land for a permanent North American Irish speaking Gaeltacht, which has just been purchased this year.
The formal opening of the Gaeltacht was held on June 16th, 2007, with representation from Ireland, the Irish ambassador to Canada, the North American Chair of Comhaltas, and the Reeve of Stone Mills Township, among others.
